AI and dating

Hot take - I'm an AI optimist in a somewhat counterintuitive way, as I believe that by doing "online" better than humans can, AI will drive greater live social engagement. We'll no longer be able to tell the real from the fake online and so when it is your AI persona engaging with my AI persona on LinkedIn and doing all the fakery that we are forced to do, you and I can go back to meeting face to face as real people.

This will be true for sales, relationships, art and music, etc. as AI will be so much better at these activities (in their online form) than any of us could be. Even some offline things that are based on online work (like schools) will be affected. By taking the performative aspect of all of these to the Nth degree, AI will destroy them. We'll still consume some stuff online, but I see a resurgence of live interactions, which will be much harder to fake for a much longer time.

*Going out* - influencers, dating sites, social media, big news, streaming movies and music, email sales, low- to mid-range universities (fancy ones will survive a bit longer as their entry requirements are still seen as a sign of quality), etc.

*Coming back* - real friends, speed dating, local events and clubs, live theatre and music, in-person sales, and apprenticeship programs

And I think that's great! Community, connection and in-person interaction are the missing piece for a lot of people and this will force us to get away from our phones and back into real life.

Or, maybe the robots will come and destroy us all...
